an email account with new mail to indicate why a mailing list is important.

With the abundance of social media platforms, email marketing might seem a bit old-fashioned. But nothing could be further from the truth!

How many emails do you receive daily from your favorite brands? And do you mind? Probably not, because at some point you subscribed to that mailing list to stay informed about all the news and offers from that brand.

And therein lies the power of an email list. I've already discussed the three pillars of soft selling: like, know, and trust. People who sign up for your email list have already passed through these three stages. They like what you have to offer. They know you through interaction with your product or content. And they trust you through previous experiences with your product or content.

Because they're on that list, you can market more effectively and ensure they stay engaged with your product or content. For example, if you subscribe to my blog, you'll automatically receive an email when I write a new blog post.

As a physical or online business, you can use this list to highlight various things such as offers, new products or events.

What is the purpose of an email list?

The goal of the email list is to keep people engaged with your product or service so that this eventually translates into a sale.

With social media, you naturally also try to create engagement so you can gain more followers on your various channels. But how do you turn those followers into leads? According to the rules of attraction marketing, you try to create a soft sale that happens organically without pushing your product or service too hard.

So on social media, your product or service is secondary to your content. You try to connect with your target audience through your content so they ultimately end up on your website, sales funnel, or blog, where the sale can ultimately take place.

I use Wix as a platform for my blog. It allows me to easily set up automated follow-up email systems and build an email list at the same time. I also build another email list through my sales funnel.

Now I can use both mailing lists to promote my blog, for example, so that people also sign up for the other mailing list.

Tips

  1. Don't simply copy email addresses from one list to another without the visitor/customer's permission. Firstly, this violates privacy laws, and secondly, it can cause potential leads to drop off because you're sending them unwanted emails.

  2. You can use an existing email list to promote another product or service. However, it should always be the recipient's choice to opt-in to your other email list.

  3. Make unsubscribing from your newsletter (opt-out) a simple process. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to unsubscribe from a newsletter and having to jump through three hoops, re-enter your personal information, and explain why you're leaving.

Just an unsubscribe button at the bottom of your email, click and you're done.
