This blog is about the question: 'How do I achieve financial freedom?'. And that path is different for everyone. What do you want out of life? What is important to you? Do you want to have enough money to travel the world? Is it your dream to have your own business? Do you want to have enough money to live well and give a lot to charity? Or do you want to have so much money that you can do what you want whenever you want?
For everyone, the amount is different. How much do you think you need to be absolutely free? 1 million? 5 million? 500 million?
The amount will probably be lower than you think! Achieving absolute freedom is a 5-step plan. These steps are about realizing it with capital from investments so that you never have to work a day in your life.
In other articles I have already shown what you can do to free up money to invest.
These steps are from the book 'Money: master the game' by Tony Robbins. If you go to www.tonyrobbins.com/masterthegame you can download a free app to calculate the different steps. It is not necessary but I recommend you to buy the book, 'Money: master the game'. It goes even deeper into the subject matter so that you can create opportunities for yourself to become financially independent.
Use the calculator after each step to gain insight. Once you realize what amount is attached to each step, you will stimulate your brain to think of solutions to achieve that goal.
Step 1: Financial security
What is financial security? Let me ask you this: How great would it be if all your fixed costs could be paid without you ever having to work a day?
Would you feel free and reassured then?
So what if your investments pay for the following:
Rent or mortgage
Gas, water and electricity, telephone
Groceries
Transportation
Insurances
It's nice when you never have to worry about that again! And you have your income to spend on the things you like.
For me, that amount is around €27,000 per year. So that means my investments have to generate this amount per year to be able to live carefree. Seems a lot but if you calculate this back it is only €2250 per month or around €500 per week. How you can achieve that is material for another article.
On to step 2!
Step 2: Financial vitality
Wow! Do you already have a good feeling from step 1? Then imagine that your investments also pay for half of the nice things in life. So clothes, concerts, eating out, shows and everything else that makes life nice.
Enter the following amounts in the calculator:
Half of your monthly clothing expenses
Half of your monthly expenses for dining out, concerts, shows, etc.
Half of your monthly costs for example manicure, massage, gym membership, etc.
It's not that bad what a difference that makes per year, right?
Step 3: Financial Independence
Pop the champagne because once you achieve financial independence, it means you will never have to work a day in your life to maintain the same lifestyle you have today!
The annual income from your savings and investments pays for the income you need while you sleep.
Work becomes something you do because you like it, not because you have to. Financial independence means that money is now your slave, you are no longer the slave of your money.
Money works for you, you don't work for it anymore.
Enter into the calculator the amount you think you need per month to be able to live in complete freedom. That you can do everything you want, have extra space to invest without it becoming extreme with expensive cars, boats and private planes.
Step 4: Financial Freedom
Financial freedom means that you are independent, you can maintain the lifestyle you have now plus 2 or 3 luxury items you want in the future without having to work for it.
To get here you need to ask yourself the following question:
“What annual income do I need to have to live the life I want and deserve?”
What do you want money for? Is it to travel the world? To have a bigger or second home? Maybe you always wanted a boat or a luxury car? Or do you want to be able to contribute even more to your charities?
Please also fill in these amounts.
Step 5: Absolute Financial Freedom
What would it be like if you could do anything you wanted, whenever you wanted? If you were able to give and have complete freedom to live your life the way you wanted - all without working to pay for it.
Maybe you want to buy your parents the dream house or start an organization to help people in need. Imagine what you could and would do if money was no longer an issue.
Think big and fill in these amounts as well.
And? Surprised? Shocked? Are the amounts positive or negative?
This exercise has a purpose of course. Everyone has dreams but rarely makes them come true. Why?
We make the costs so high that we don't even start the journey to make the dream come true.
By putting a price tag on it, you make your goals tangible.
There is no dream that you cannot achieve if you are determined and dedicated. You will find creative ways to make your dreams come true!
